Exciting news from the “Cumbria Leading the Way to Net Zero” Conference!
On the 11th September 2023 A E Yates Ltd had the privilege of attending the conference organised by CLEP, Cumberland Council, and Westmorland and Furness Council, and we must say, it was a game-changer!
Credit to Jo Lappin, Chief Exec of CLEP, for leading a dynamic morning session, and Angela Jones for keeping us engaged in the afternoon.
Lord Inglewood, Councillor Lisa Brown, Deputy Leader of Cumberland Council, and Councillor Jonathan Brook, Leader of Westmorland and Furness Council, joined forces to shed light on how Cumbria is at the forefront of the net-zero movement. Cumbria already contributes a substantial 5.6% of the UK’s clean energy generation, with even more significant projects on the horizon. Their ambitious plans to decarbonise and the region’s exceptional natural resources make Cumbria uniquely positioned to lead the charge towards net-zero emissions.
We were privileged to hear from thought leaders and experts who are driving this exciting agenda forward. The agenda was packed with valuable insights, and I was particularly impressed by the array of speakers who shared their real-world experiences and case studies. Here’s a glimpse of what we learned:
Cumbria’s Clean Energy Ambition – Ian Wheeler, Head of Sectors, CLEP and Case Studies from:
• Barrow Green Hydrogen and its potential for wider deployment in Cumbria – Eric Adam, Project Director, Carlton Power • Morecambe Net Zero Carbon Storage Scheme – Richard Peace, Energy Transition Director, Spirit Energy • Small Modular Reactor Deployment at Moorside – Andrew Carr, Solway Community Power • Hydrogen Transport Opportunities in Cumbria – Nick Shelley, Senior Business Development Manager, Element 2
But that’s not all! We also had the privilege of hearing from Sven Till, Managing Director of A E Yates Ltd, who shared his support for the net-zero initiative and how A E Yates is leading the way in the construction and civil engineering sector while emphasising the importance of our supply chain embracing the step into being green:
💬 “At A E Yates Ltd, we embrace the net-zero journey. We believe that sustainability isn’t just a choice; it’s our responsibility. Today’s conference reaffirms our commitment to reducing our environmental footprint while delivering excellence in construction and civil engineering. Together, we are shaping a greener, more sustainable future. It’s essential that our entire supply chain joins us in this endeavour.”
These presentations truly showcased what’s happening on the ground and provided best practice and real-life examples of progress towards a sustainable, net-zero future.
