A E Yates have an exciting new opportunity for an experienced Civil Engineering Estimator to join our dynamic team based at our Head Office in Bolton. You will play a crucial role in securing profitable work through competitive tendering of bids for individual projects and frameworks with our extensive current client base and for new customers.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare accurate tender estimates from first principles working to, often tight, deadlines
  • Assess tender documents for all relevant technical and contractual issues
  • Undertake effective site visits
  • Prepare accurate take-offs and materials schedules
  • Produce Bills of Quantities from works information to method of measurement standards
  • Prepare subcontract enquiry requirements for Enquiry Manager and evaluate quotations received
  • Actively engage and develop long term relationships with key supply chain partners
  • Liaise with Pre-Construction Department regarding programme and technical/quality submissions
  • Liaise with Delivery Teams to ensure continual improvement in tenders through knowledge sharing
  • Participate in tender stage Value Engineering and Risk Management
  • Participate in tender settlement meetings
  • Participate in post tender interviews, presentations, and negotiations with customers
  • Participate in tender handover meetings with Delivery Teams following award
  • Stay up to date with current and alternative technologies and solutions to improve bids through innovation
  • Maintain awareness of current Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental requirements and changes
  • Reporting directly to Associate Pre-Construction Director

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Proven track record of successful estimating experience in all aspects of the civil engineering industry
  • HND Civil Engineering qualification (or be able to provide evidence of equivalent experience)
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, reports, SI etc.
  • Experience and understanding of common forms of contract (e.g. JCT, NEC 3, NEC 4 etc.)
  • Experienced in various forms of methods of measurement such as CESSM, NRM, and Highways Method Of Measurement
  • Full driving licence
  • Ability to work as part of an experienced estimating team and integrate with other internal departments
  • Professional attitude and ability to operate without supervision
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office software packages
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Good time management and high degree of organisation

Preferable, but not essential

  • Civil Engineering Degree qualification
  • Experience using Causeway Estimating package. Training will be provided for the ideal candidate if necessary
  • Experience of producing target costs based on framework rates and identifying “star rates”
  • Previous civil engineering site experience e.g. Site Agent/Manager
  • CAD experience
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Project
  • Appropriate CSCS qualification
