We were awarded the contract to trenchlessly divert an existing fuel pipeline using the horizontal directional drilling method. A 10” steel fuel pipeline was installed in two phases.
The first phase was a single drill length of around 300m under the Trent and Mersey Canal and the River Trent. This was to enable the dismantling of a pipe bridge that passed over the canal. The second phase was to around 70m and involved dewatering the ground around the connection point and excavating to form a rig platform which allowed the minimum bend radius required for the steel pipe.
On completion of both drives we handed over to others for the pipe to be welded and tied in to the existing fuel pipeline on a specific date. Following completion of the tie we removed the pipe bridge and grouted up the abandoned pipeline.
The pipeline was successfully installed, welded and tied-in within the time allowed ensuring the critical re-connection date was achieved.
