Overview

Horizon Youth Zone, Grimsby

SPI Piling Ltd were employed by Hobson Porter Limited, to install a steel sheet piled wall in-place of an existing canal wall that was demolished.

Installation of 88nr EZ19-700 sheet piles for a retaining wall to enable the river embankment to be built up to existing ground level to enable a play area to be constructed for the New Grimsby Youth Zone.

The sheet piles will be initially installed using the 35t Kobelco 350 excavator and side grip attachment to the centre of the sheet pile line as this area is furthest away from vibration sensitive buildings. Based on the proximity of sensitive structures the installation method will change from side grip to ZU100 pressing which will result in an 80t mobile being required to pitch the sheet piles and lances due to the requirement of water jetting for the last 2-3m of pressing.

Due to the tight working area, a Walk-back Device was also utilised to allow the ZU100 to walk back to, with radius of the mobile crane to then be lifted from the pile line and removed from site.

The sheet piled wall is to have brick cladding and a Coping Stone installed, this will then allow the construction behind of New Buildings for entertainment etc.
