Overview

Leeds Bradford Airport

The project involved a coordinated package of earthworks, drainage, ducting, and airfield infrastructure within a live airport environment. Initial enabling works were conducted airside, with daily briefings held with Amco Giffen to manage the airside pass application process.

Major service diversions included upgrading the AGL system, with new infrastructure installed and existing cables diverted for two new aircraft stands. This work coincided with demanding drainage operations on-site.

Key activities for the new stands included installing AGL pit and duct systems to match the revised layout and reconfiguring existing circuits, affecting vital assets like taxiway centrelines and apron lighting. New AGL luminaires were also installed to enhance safety and performance at the new stands and taxiway curve.

AEY completed a range of infrastructure activities, including service identification through GPR surveys and vacuum excavation, high-voltage service diversions, and the construction of manholes with hydrobrake installations. They installed 600 meters of land drainage and 450 meters of 900 mm concrete pipes, along with additional drainage systems, creating a robust network. Over 1,000 meters of ducting were installed, alongside lighting column foundations and a new fire main. Kerbing works and final reinstatements, including topsoiling, were also completed.

Additionally, the project contributed to a terminal expansion of 9,500 m² across three storeys, featuring new security, baggage handling, and immigration facilities. The development focused on upgrades for accessibility, energy efficiency, and sustainability, supporting the airport’s long-term operational and environmental goals
