Linton Bridge is over 70m long and is Grade II listed. The three span masonry arch bridge supports Linton Road over the River Wharfe. The bridge was closed to pedestrians and vehicles in December 2015 due to severe flood damage. The south pier, in the river, had settled 200mm causing the masonry arches either side to distort and crack.
The stabilisation and strengthening works involved;
Temporary support
Specialist piling through the existing masonry abutments and piers to the rock bed
Careful removal of the existing reinforced concrete deck to reduce loadings
Structural steelwork
Casting in-situ concrete pile caps and deck saddle
The works also involved increasing the height of the masonry parapet walls, carriageway and footway resurfacing, service ducting and the reinstatement of an access track. The project was carried out under NEC Option C conditions of contract.
