SPI Piling Ltd, were employed by CPC Civils Ltd to Install 2nr Cofferdams with piles ranging from 7.0 to 8.0m depth to enable CPC Civils Ltd, to construct 2nr headwalls on the River Trent in Derby, this was for their client Severn Trent Water.
The front line and 8m of the return lines were applied with clutch sealant to prevent ingress of the River Trent into the Cofferdams.
The East Cofferdam consists of 113nr sheet piles min section L605 due to ground conditions and the East cofferdam, 111nr sheet piles with minimum pile section of L604.
The sheet piles were installed in 1nr visits, with the piles installed using 35t Kobelco 350 excavator, movax and DX25 impact hammer. There is 1nr level of temporary frames in each cofferdam.
The piles have been extracted using crawler/mobile crane with vibro hammer working at maximum radius of 24m, piles were in the ground 2-4months.
The new outfalls structures are for clean water outlets from Sewerage Treatment Plant within the Derby Area. The Outlet Pipes in both cofferdams travel approximately 11km across land and the clean water is pumped from the Sewerage Treatment Plant into the River Trent.
