Overview

Golf Club, Burton on Trent, Staffordshire

As part of the flood defence scheme within Burton Upon Trent SPI Piling Ltd, were awarded the sheet piling and welding works by Galliford Try to install 680linm of L603 steel sheet piles varying in length from 5.0 to 6.5m. To ensure that seepage was reduced at high level flooding of the river Trent each pile had flat bar fully welded up the top 2m of pile to seal the pile clutch. Upon completion of the piling a folded steel capping beam was placed on top of the piles in 3m sections and welded to the full length of the flood defence wall to complete the aesthetics of the exposed wall.. The installation works were carried out over 3nr visits with the sheet piles installed using the SPI 35t excavator and MG90 Grizzly side grip attachment.

The sheet piles where installed to a level tolerance of 10mm which resulted in considerable accuracy being required to terminate the sheet piles at the correct level.

SPI Piling Ltd and Galliford Try have worked closely on other sections of the flood defence schemes at Burton Upon Trent with all works carried out to an extremely high standard. The sheet pile installation has all been carried out with the side grip piler and has included night time working for working closely to Network Rail Assets and piling in close proximity to existing properties with great installation success achieved. All works have been completed on time and have met the key programme dates.

SPI Piling provided installation services to Galliford Try and offered their expertise on the sheet pile selection for driveability into the underlying strata.
