Overview

Helping the growth in renewable energy

We assisted sister company A E Yates' Power and Waste division from tender stage. This enabled the A E Yates Group to offer a one stop shop for the Balance of Plant works including building the bases of the turbines to access roads, crane pads, all the cable route and installation of the mechanical and electrical system.
The windfarm crossed a variety of terrain and we advised that horizontal directional drilling would be the best solution for road crossings. This eliminated the requirement for open cut crossings with attendant road closures, diversion routes and higher costs. This was incorporated into the design for the project which was subsequently awarded to A E Yates Limited.

We were appointed to install 4 x 125mm SDR11 plastic electric ducts at three locations under the main roads in the area for the HV cables which connected to the National Grid. The four ducts were installed in one bundle to minimise the easement width required across the adjacent fields. The reaming process was taken slowly to reduce any risk of settlement across the highway. The rig chosen was our Astec 4045 HDD Rig which is capable of 18 tonnes pullback and 4,500 ft.lbs of rotational torque. Each crossing was around 100m from pit to pit in length. The project was successfully delivered on time and within budget.
