SPI Piling Ltd, were engaged by Jones Brothers Ltd for the Installation of 3nr temporary steel sheet pile cofferdams with each cofferdam consisting of 110nr 11.0-12.0m sheets along with 1nr level of 610mm framing steel. The sheet piles where installed during tidal working due so careful planning was required to ensure that the optimum time was provided for sheet pile installation. The cofferdams will be in situ for 32 weeks. The cofferdams will enable Jones Brothers Ltd to form 3nr sets of concrete access steps down to the beach from the premade as part of the East Rhyl sea Defence Project.

A large amount of work coastal erosion prevention works has been carried out by Jones Brothers by placing the rock armour along the sea front to protect the existing promenade.

Careful planning and coordination was required on site due to the access being available from one access point along he promenade. During the sheet piling works excavations, rock armour placement, stone delivers and steel farming was carried out resulting in high volume of traffic being used along the access route at all times. To enable the efficient piling works, SPI worked very closely with Jones Brothers project teams to plan and schedule the work on a daily basis with the installation works being completed in a 6 week programme.

SPI Piling provided, design, supply and installation services to Jones Brothers Ltd. The installation of the sheet piles was carried out using the 14/17 ABI leader rig serviced by a 38t New Holland excavator.
