‘Shedding’ light on literacy

A E Yates Limited Civil Engineering took part in ‘International Volunteering Day’ whilst undertaking a project at Clocaenog Substation.  We were invited by our customer Scottish Power Energy Networks (SPEN) to help in the design and construction of ‘The Literacy Shed’ for Criftins Primary School in Ellesmere, Shropshire.

The idea was conceived by Headmistress Mandy Jones to promote somewhere that the pupils could use during their breaks to sit and read, hopefully generating lifelong reading habits.

We challenged structural engineers Fairhurst to deliver a design and Buildbase builders merchants to sponsor the materials for the project.  Both stepped up to the challenge brilliantly helping SPEN to create the Literacy Shed.

The 5.0m x 4.0m Literacy Shed was prefabricated in our workshops in Bolton before being transported to the school ready for construction in the school playground.
