Stoke Car Park

Combined Soil Stabilisation Ltd were asked to undertake a very sensitive stabilisation contract to stabilise site won made ground to create a 30% CBR sub-base replacement layer that was also non-frost susceptible to form part of the foundation for a new car park facility at the train station.

The main requirement for the contract was a dust-free stabilisation option to achieve the end product specification. The work area was within meters of live platforms at this busy station and the passengers, and the station staff could not be exposed to any dust from any site activities.

CSSL utilised one of the eleven Wirtgen WR240i S–Pack integrated mixers we operate to deliver the project.  Product is transferred from our state-of-the-art silos directly into the Wirtgen mixing unit. The mixer then has the soils density and percentage addition requirements set in the computer. The Wirtgen Mixer then accurately spreads the hydraulic binders to almost exact doses and mixes in a single pass of the machine all behind a heavy rubber skirt preventing dust from the operation being generated. It was compacted with 19t Hamm Rollers with Continuous Compaction Control technology.

The scheme was delivered on programme without any issues with dust (or any other issues) to a very happy client who has recently contacted us to assist with the next project with the same issues.
