A E Yates have a number of projects where we have majorly reconstructed road surfaces on motorways, retail parks and industrial developments.
Development Infrastructure projects:
Current Project: Wingates, Westhoughton (Bolton)
Client: Harworth Group
Wingates is a strategic employment hub in Westhoughton, Bolton which could create up to 6,000 new jobs over the next 10-15 years. The site is located to the south of the A6 Chorley Road and to the west of the Wingates Industrial Estate, close to Junction 6 of the M61.
The site already has planning consent for 1.1 million sq ft of logistics and manufacturing space, with work due to start later this year to deliver the first phase of up to 1,500 new jobs. It is also allocated under the recently adopted Places for Everyone – Greater Manchester Spatial Plan – as a location to deliver a further 3.6 million sq ft of employment space.
A E Yates Civil Engineering have completed the road realignment enabling works which will move traffic 40 metres away from nearby homes creating a new landscaped buffer between the realigned A6 and local properties. The existing road is being narrowed and retained, providing access for local residences and creating a new cul-de-sac which will be shut off to through-traffic, improving safety for residents and access for deliveries.

A595 Moresby Hall scheme, Cumbria
- Client: National Highways
A E Yates completed this major redevelopment infrastructure project at the end of 2023. In total, we had 175 staff working over each of the ten weekends and with their hard work we constructed two new drainage tunnels under the A595 and we built two large ponds to collect any drainage water; this will prevent flooding in the area. We finalised work on two new drainage tunnels under the A595 and increased the length of the merge lane off Howgate roundabout whereby we installed 3.9km of new kerbs and kerb drainage along the A595 and 500 metres of new gas pipelines and BT fibre-optic cabling. On this project A E Yates resurfaced over a mile of carriageway!
