Southport Pier: Social Value

A E Yates are currently conducting steel inspections at Southport Pier; we think it is important to be involved with the local community at Southport and make a difference! We are a Civil Engineering contractor who actually delivers our social value commitments.

Mad Dog 10k run – 6th February 2024.

Our Site Engineer Pat McGrattan and our Social Media/Social Value Co-ordinator volunteered 10am-12pm to marshal the Mad Dog 10k run and ensure our site was safe and secure for runners to pass through. Our employees had a great time applauding and cheering on runners as they passed!

We received fantastic feedback from Peter Brooks, one of the organisers of the event who reached out to us originally in need of help:

“Thank you for all your support. We have received amazing comments from runners and spectators alike.”

Southport College site visit – 23rd January 2024.

A E Yates hosted Southport College for a visit to our Southport Pier site. Our Contracts Manager Mick O’Hanlan went through the history of the pier, explained the steel inspection works that we are currently completing and took the students onto the live site to get a real first hand insight into what we do and what civil engineering involves. An exciting aspect to this visit was at the end we shared that we are expanding our teams and therefore there is trainee/apprenticeship opportunities for the students and the majority of the group were interested! Our Social media/Social Value Co-ordinator assisted on this visit. Our employees spent around 3 hours with around 20 college students from Southport College.

We received fantastic feedback from Southport College:

Wall Of Kindness – Take a coat if you need one this winter

Our Contracts Manager Mick O’Hanlan designed and created the Wall of Kindness and we originally locally supplied the coats from local charity shops. Since then, it has been shared on social media and local residents from the community have been dropping off spare coats and this has enabled there to be a constant replenishment.

We have received an overwhelming positive response from social media:

Litter picking with Green Sefton run by Sefton Council – 24th February 2024

Our employees: Mick O’Hanlan, Saffron Ramsey, James Heaton and Adam Dipoti volunteered to litter pick for 2 hours (12am-2pm) and collectively filled 8 bags of rubbish. Green Sefton keeps the Southport area including the beach and local parks clean for the community to enjoy and to help save wildlife.

We had great feedback from Sefton Council:
