A E Yates Group Carbon Reduction Plan

Our commitment to achieving Net Zero

A E Yates is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions. This plan is for the next 5 years and will be reviewed annually. There is an expectation that most savings will be made in future years as clients, suppliers and contractors drive innovation and greener initiatives.
This report has been prepared by AEY Group in compliance with UK Government Procurement Policy Note 6/21:
Taking Account of Carbon Reduction Plans in the procurement of major government contracts.

FOREWORD

A E Yates is an organisation that is focused on improving human life, be that of our workforce, clients or
the communities in which we operate.
We are seeing around the world, an increasing intensity of the changing climate as a result of the over
reliance on carbon-based fuels, carbon heavy materials and production methods. The time is now for us
to act, this is why a challenging target of becoming Net Zero in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030 has
been set.

Long term sustainability has been at the heart of our delivery for many years, this plan identifies both
the short and the medium-term actions for us to monitor to enable us to stay on target and offers a
long-term road map to ensure our strategy takes into account our carbon footprint and allows us to
explore new technologies and changing markets.

Sven Till, Managing Director, A E Yates Ltd.

Emissions Reduction Targets

In order to continue our progress to achieving Net Zero, we have adopted the following carbon reduction targets:

Scope 1 Emissions
Incorporate an electric first policy on our fleet of company cars, to provide cleaner business
miles and employee commuting.
Replace existing Euro 6 fleet to more energy efficient vehicles, potentially with dual Hydrogen
and Electric tractor units and plant when they become available and when infrastructure allows
but starting no later than 2028.
Utilise Solar Generators on projects where the environment allows.
Estimated Savings 2021tCO₂e

Scope 2 Emissions
Switch to an energy provider that provides energy from 100% renewable sources.
Adopt a more energy efficient Heating System within our office buildings.
Estimated savings 995tCO₂e

Scope 3 Emissions
Effective waste management at our offices and sites following, re-use, reduce, recycle.
Where practicable, source lower carbon materials for our projects.
Estimated savings 692tCO₂e

Through working to achieve our targets we project that carbon emissions will decrease over
the next 5 years by 3708tCO₂e.
This is a reduction of 31.75%.

The savings will be delivered through switching to a utility provider that sources 100%
renewable energy (estimated savings 115tCO₂e), upgrading the heating system away from a gas
oil boiler (estimated savings 885tCO₂e) and increasing the number of company electric vehicles
by rolling out all new vans and company cars as electric from 2023 (estimated saving 950tCO₂e).
We are estimating a 50tCO₂e behavioural efficiency improvement year on year.
As other carbon reducing options present themselves the targets may be amended to
accommodate anything deemed suitable.

2022/23 highlights – 48.7tCO₂e saving through renewable energy use, 176.13tCO₂e saved by
switching company cars to fully electric.

Carbon Reduction Projects

The following environmental management measures and projects have been completed or
